german woman goes overboard on north sea cruise and dies

A tragic incident overshadowed a cruise on the north sea: a woman went overboard on the "MSC meraviglia" and died on friday. The ship arrived at its destination, the port of keel, on saturday.

"We are deeply saddened by this incident and offer our sincere condolences to the family and those affected," the cruise line MSC cruises announced.

The incident occurred, according to the shipping company, on friday at noon around 12.45 o’clock in the skagerrak between norway and denmark. The passenger jumped overboard voluntarily during the voyage to kiel, the shipping company said after its findings.

"The security systems of our ship as well as the ship’s command reacted immediately, effectively and appropriately."Within a few minutes, the ship changed its route and returned to the place where the incident occurred.

According to the shipping company, the ship’s command has received excellent support from the norwegian rescue center in stavanger. The joint rescue coordination center (JRCC) there deployed a helicopter equipped with thermal imaging cameras. The danish coast guard also deployed a helicopter to the scene. In addition, a fishing boat and a sailing boat were involved in the search.

Despite the quick rescue operation, the woman suffered fatal injuries, the shipping company announced. She was flown to the hospital in aalborg, danish. Her identity has been clarified, but she is to be identified beyond doubt by her family on monday, a police official in aalborg said on saturday.

The ship arrived in kiel on schedule and is currently being handled, the port’s security service announced this morning in response to a query. The ship had arrived in the morning and was scheduled to arrive by 19.00 o’clock mooring at the east shore.

The case brings back memories of the missing ex-TV star daniel kublbock, who went overboard a ship in september 2018 during a cruise from hamburg to new york near newfoundland. At the time, there was reason to believe that 33-year-old sanger had jumped overboard.
